Mulattoo, the other black experience. The word mulatto is a term used to describe a person of black and white heritage. In other words that person has one black parent and one white parent. That individual in most cases appear to have fair skin. What do I mean by fair skin? What I mean is that they look White or Caucasian. Many Mulattoes are classified as black according to medical records because of a system that says any race mixed with Black is Black. The Mulatto experience is unique because of unfortunate circumstances. You see in America there is racism. People are discriminated against because of the color of their skin. The color of the skin is consider first before the content of their character. The Mulatto is somewhat caught in the middle of a racism. He or she in most cases is accepted and loved by whites who thinks he or she is white until they find out he or she is black. But in some cases hated by Blacks who looks at the Mulatto having privilege and being superior like whites. What is privileged you may ask? Privilege is having the right and advantages of whites who are look at as superior to dark skin blacks.
It is true that many mulattoes have experience this privilege. They have confessed to having opportunities to live in better neighborhoods, better housing, received better education, receive better paying jobs and receive better treatment than their dark skin counterparts. When mulattoes tell there story it is often bitter sweet. They enjoy the privileged, but they hurt for their brother. They hurt for their children who are forced to choose a classification in regards to races. They hurt because they can hear what their others are saying about their sisters and brothers of color. They can hear this from the media and from those in the schools and in the workplace that think that they are white. They almost forced to identify with one of the races which is very unfair. This like chosen a parent and rejecting another. The Black slave did not volunteer to come to America. He was brought here by force and so it was with the mulatto. History tells us that most mulatto came about as a result of a rape from the White slave master. The Mulatto child was then mistreated by wife or mistresses of this master because they assume because of the color of the child the slave's mother must have had relations with the Master. Which was her husband. When you see picture of slaves notice that you never see a mulatto slave. Often, mulatto slaves were look at as outcast and were sold to prevent future conflicts. Yet in modern society the mulattoes faces dominates the cover of black magazine as models, singers, politicians, inventors, etc causing even more hurt and pain among dark skin blacks who feel they should they should have the same opportunity to have success.
I wish that this world was not like this. Although, I focused on America racism. Racism in regards to black skin and white skin can be seen everywhere. I wish that world could be truly happy and that race would never be an issue, but since it is I hope to educate people on the issue. By doing I believe that we may be able to do something about this problem that's tearing our world apart. The videos below tells the stories of many mulatto. Listen as they share they joy, their hurt and their pain.
