If you have been watching the news in the past 2 years you would think that all white police officer hate black men. But, the reality is that all white cops don't hate black men or harass them. As a matter of fact many Police department across the nation have inner-city boxing league and recreational clubs. The PAL which stands for Police Activities League is a community-based crime prevention program which provides youth with positive alternatives to gangs and drugs. It is designed to keep the youth off the street. This league allows the youth in communities to form bonds and relationships with police. But, also at the time gives them an opportunity to learn and excel in many activities. What are some of the activities you may ask? Well, they offer classes in dance, exercise dills, football, flag football, double-dutch, ultimate Frisbee, basketball, baseball, gaming tournaments, volleyball, dodge ball, martial arts, kickboxing and more.
If your child is between the ages of 6 -17 he or she can get involved. The PAL is support by celebrity bowling event in Hollywood California and luncheon and gathering in New York city. I believe that the PAL will help bridge the gap between youth and the community in which it serves.
Recently a youth was stranded on the side of the road because his tire blew out. When the cop approach the story of what happened next wasn't what we have being hearing in the news as of late. I firmly believe that we will hear more story like this if parent would encourage there kids to become part of the PAL, I also believe that if officer could donate a few hours spending time with the kids there it would help community relations.
